Small and Medium Sized Enterprises are among the primary drivers of economic growth in Türkiye. Yet access to financing remains one of the most pressing challenges facing the segment. As SMEs seek faster and more flexible alternatives beyond traditional banking solutions, fintech companies have increasingly emerged as a vital support mechanism. Since 2024, Octet Türkiye has enabled 3,500 SMEs to access next generation financial tools through its digital solutions designed to improve access to financing.
SMEs form the backbone of the Turkish economy, but financing constraints continue to shape their growth trajectory. As demand rises for alternative financial solutions outside conventional banking channels, the role of fintech providers has become more prominent.
In parallel with global trends, fintech investments in Türkiye regained momentum in 2024. Of the 901 fintech startups established in the country, 731 are actively operating. Within an ecosystem that includes 89 licensed payment institutions, the number of players focusing specifically on SMEs continues to grow.

ToggleFinTechs Are Transforming the SME Landscape

Derya Ekemen Fidan, CEO of Octet Türkiye, highlights the growing importance of SMEs within the fintech ecosystem:
“The most critical need in SMEs’ digitalization journey is sustainable liquidity management and faster collection processes. Fintech solutions directly address this need. Reaching 3,500 SMEs since 2024 demonstrates the importance SMEs place on digital transformation. At Octet Türkiye, we continuously expand and tailor our solutions for the SME segment. Today, access to financing is no longer limited to bank loans. Tools such as Direct Debit Systems, Supplier Financing, and extending payment terms through commercial cards offer SMEs multiple digital pathways to manage liquidity.”
Ekemen Fidan also noted that as digital investments begin to yield returns, behavioral patterns among SMEs in Türkiye are evolving.
“Particularly in sectors such as food, chemicals, agriculture, and automotive, SMEs are increasingly managing their collections through digital platforms. Single payment and six installment transactions together account for nearly half of total transaction volume. These figures show that SMEs are diversifying how they manage cash flow and are now conducting maturity and payment term management through digital channels.”
Beyond Solutions: Enabling Strategic Decision Support
Industry analyses indicate that fintech solutions are evolving beyond transactional tools into platforms that influence strategic decision making. AI driven payment systems and digital onboarding processes not only accelerate operations but also enhance data driven decision capabilities.
Commenting on this shift, Ekemen Fidan stated:
“SMEs increasingly want to manage both collections and payments through data driven insights. Fintech infrastructure supports this behavioral change. At Octet Türkiye, we provide not only solutions but also decision support to our clients.”
Ekemen Fidan further emphasized that regulatory developments in Türkiye have increasingly supported fintech investment.
“The legal framework around open banking, digital onboarding, and alternative financing instruments has strengthened in recent years, enabling fintech providers to scale their services to SMEs more effectively. However, further progress is still needed in areas such as data security, transparency, and financial literacy. As AI based decision systems become more widespread, fintech companies are expected to evolve beyond payment providers into strategic advisory partners.”
With growing digital adoption, supportive regulation, and AI integration, fintechs are positioned to play an increasingly transformative role in strengthening the SME economy.
